    Many services from other departments (maths, physics, computer science, mechanical engineering,...); Close link to research through teaching assignments with employees from research projects; Very well-equipped laboratories (newly equipped in 2016/17); Good student-staff ratio (small groups); Specialisation courses only have to be chosen after the foundation course (3 semesters). Good technical equipment for e-learning (VDI, learning platform OPAL, video technology in auditorium/seminar room), teaching LST knowledge to dual students of the DB from all over Germany using the blended learning approach

    Many contracts with partner universities for exchange semesters; Recognition of credits earned abroad. Cooperation agreements on "joint programmes" with 6 universities on 4 continents, recognition course administration at the DHIK, obligatory exchange internships for all students with the nearby TU Liberec (Czech Republic) in the current semester

    Very modern techn. equipment (e.g. own high-voltage hall, mechatronics laboratory, Zittau power plant laboratory, teaching and training station Zittau - Süd); In 2016-18 all laboratories, classrooms and offices were refitted using initial setup grants and DFG funding for large-scale equipment (setup of an EMC laboratory with two cabins and a partial discharge measuring cabin in the high-voltage laboratory, which is still under construction). Location-independent provision of specialist software and databases via the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).

    The department carries out 90% of industrial research and approx. 50% of the total research at the HSZG, close cooperation and joint project groups with Fraunhofer institutes: Fraunhofer Institute f. Machine tools and forming technology IWU, Fraunhofer Institute for Optronics, System Technology and Image Exploitation IOSB, research in the department as well as in affiliated institutes of the HSZG, Institute for Process Technology; Process automation and measurement technology (IPM) with approx. 50 full-time equivalent positions is the largest structural unit of the HSZG; In addition to transregional research projects, many are also carried out with local stakeholders

  • Support for founders
    The faculty participates in the activities of the start-up academy of Zittau/Görlitz University of Applied Sciences (https://www.hszg.de/studium/karriereservice/gruenderakademie-2.html). Company start-ups are supported as part of the course Project Management for Engineers.

    Laboratory and staff rooms on a coherent campus with short distances; Small and individual department; Excellent relationships between students and teaching staff. The resulting close personal contacts contribute to students' academic success. Above-average percentage of students graduate (approx. 75%), approx. 90% complete their degree within the standard period of study
