    Broad scope of topics: access to numerous professional fields; individual implementation of the acquired key biotechnology qualifications in optional modules: Cell Factory, Food Quality, Environmental Biotechnology and Bioactive Substances; over 700 people on the campus in biotech research: involvement of campus partners in teaching and research ensures topicality and close relationship with research; high-tech lab equipment – independent work on lab equipment in small groups; management and personal skills in teaching; Manageable scale and personal atmosphere.

    The department is involved in the partner university network of the university of applied sciences. Exchange semesters are offered in Canada, Germany, Switzerland, Poland, France and Spain. The range of Master's semesters taught in English enables admission of guest students. Work placements and Master's theses are carried out around the world.

    Separation processes: liquid and gas chromatography (detection of UV-Vis, refractive index, flame ionisation and fluorescence), electrophoresis; Mass Spectrometry: orbitrap, single quadrupole; infrared spectroscopy: NIR, MIR, Raman microscope; microbiology/biotechnology lab with 3-part fermentation system, sterile workbench and fluorescence microscope; biochemical processes: Immunoassays; Molecular biology laboratory with microarray printer; two well-equipped IT lecture theatres.

    The core expertise of the Tulln UAS site can be summarised as "analysis and characterisation of natural materials and biotechnological processes using chromatographic, spectroscopic and molecular-biology procedures". The spectrum of topics ranges from research into the phytotoxic metabolic products of moulds and the production of microarrays, right through to the fermentational production of proteins. The research and development findings are integrated directly into the research-led teaching.
