Special features regarding teachingOur courses combine a general and specific compulsory programme with a large number of individual elective options. The specific content, such as Strategic IT Management and Business Process Optimisation, can be consolidated on the basis of solid methodological skills. The further the study progresses, the more options students have to choose their own specialisations. At the same time, number of practical projects increases through the course of the studies. This ensures the acquisition of skills in a timely and practical manner as well as the establishment of contacts to companies.
Special features regarding the international orientationOur faculty has many international contacts at organisational and personnel levels. The newly established programmes in Business Informatics (WI) benefit particularly from the experience with the Bachelor's in International Business Administration and Master's in International Marketing & Sales thanks to their emphasis on English-language courses that attract many international students, especially from many of the partner universities. To render these synergies even more useful, the WI programmes and international programmes have combined to create a joint study area.
Common partner universities for exchangeNTNU (Norway); Jönköping University (Sweden); KOREA Tech (South Korea); East Stroudsburg University (USA); ESC Clermont-Ferrand (France); Cork Institute of Technology (Ireland); Mikkeli University of Applied Sciences (Finland)
Special features regarding the equipmentOur department provides different courses with various requirements. This creates a wide range of possibilities in terms of technical equipment and subject-specific databases. As concerns technical equipment, we also benefit from the possibilities of the technical departments, particularly Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering. Our technical equipment meets modern requirements and our databases up-to-date, well maintained and comprehensive. Open study and project spaces complement modern computer pools, and there is also a CP factory (Industry 4.0).
Special features regarding research and developmentThe faculty is part of the most research-intensive university in Baden-Württemberg, and we follow international research standards consistently. We have a high level of competence in quantitative and qualitative empirical research methods, and our laboratories on Industry 4.0 and Eye-Tracking (in development) are state of the art. Digital transformation confronts production and business processes with new challenges, which we address at the interface between business and digital technology; For example, we assist Foundry Engineering with the evaluation of large amounts of data.

Support for foundersTo promote entrepreneurial spirit, the Aalen University has implemented its own programme (GuStL). At the department, all students benefit from the experience of the Business Administration course for small and medium-sized enterprises and the Master's in Management of small and medium-sized enterprises in the field of entrepreneurship. In practical terms, we promote start-ups together with the technical departments of the university and have developed the joint Master's in Business Development especially for entrepreneurial students. Together with our innovation centre, we offer space, equipment and advice to student start-ups, particularly also in the field of IT.
Characteristics of assistance to differently abled personsEnabling all students to experience genuine university life, within and outside the university, matters to us. In addition to the legal framework, such as accommodation with respect to exams, we provide individual support to students with permanent health problems through a university officer. This is accomplished in daily life through the great commitment and high level of social skills of our students and staff. We actively encourage this through constant work in small groups and thus ensure actual team building in our programmes.
Characteristics of diversity advancementAs the only non-technical department, we have contributed a new element to the university since its establishment. We are also strategically ready for specific groups. Students of International Business Administration, Business Administration SMEs, Health Management and Industrial Engineering as well as Business Informatics are diverse, yet form a strong unit whose networking we encourage through inter-disciplinary elective options. We are regional, not provincial, and open to new things; in research and teaching particularly to the people who come to us.
Other special featuresWe have our own selection process for our courses. As a department, we aim to set deliberate standards in the selection of applicants. Our focus is on (future) students. This is why we invest in student support and make time for students. This is borne out by a large number of tutorials, exercises and small group sizes.
